From Maddi’s Closet
Purpose:
From Maddi’s Closet strives to make a difference in the lives of children and their families who are battling pediatric cancer by providing programs that bring love, hope, and joy into their lives, raise public awareness about the issues particular to childhood cancer, and provide financial support for research leading us closer to a cure for pediatric cancer.
Progress:
God has certainly blessed From Maddi's Closet. We depend 100% on public support. There are no paid positions. All of our volunteers give lovingly of their time, talents, and financial contributions. Over the past four and one-half years, we have worked closely with Childrens Hospital Los Angeles to provide regular fun-filled programs and events for 100 patients each event, participated in many CHLA sponsored events celebrating the little patient's lives and encouraging their families. An FMC Emergency Fund has been established at CHLA to provide the hospital staff with funding for patients who have special needs not being met by other public support resources. From Maddi's Closet has recently been recognized by CHLA as a major contributor to the Cancer Research Program, having contributed over $50,000 in the four year period.
Volunteer Opportunities:
From Maddi’s Closet needs volunteers who are willing to assist Donna with gathering donated supplies for the special events at CHLA as well as making periodic visits to deliver the items to the patients and families. We need a secured storage place for the supplies as they are gathered. We sponsor two major fundraisers each year : A Family Fun Night Dance in July and The Mad Dash Community Walk in November/December. Our events are growing and we need volunteers to help in the set-up and activities of the events. Our greatest challenge is fundraising. There is always a need for terrific fundraising ideas and volunteers to help implement the projects.
