Interfaith Food Center
Feeding the hungry since 1983, The Interfaith Food Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to distributing food to the needy families and homeless of Whittier and La Mirada.
Every week IFC serves over a thousand families from its 2520 square foot facility, making IFC one of the largest food pantries in the state of California. Yearly over a million pounds of food are placed in the hands of individuals. Food is obtained from the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, local markets, churches, community organizations, and individual donors.
A number of WACC members volunteer weekly distributing food at IFC at the various distribution times.
For the past few years WACC members have worked in teams on much needed improvements during Serve Weekend. Just this past spring, WACC members painted and refurbished the bathrooms at IFC, replaced missing ceiling tiles, and cleaned and restocked the shelves.
IFC always welcomes volunteers to help with the distribution of the food during the week. Food distributions occur every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 am to noon, and Tuesday evening from 5pm-7pm. IFC also needs help with drivers to pick up donated food from local supermarkets. Additionally, IFC facilities can always use TLC. For example, floors at IFC are in need of stripping.
